The only way to keep this stone dry is to apply some sort of sealer to stop the water for penatrating through the asphalt. Asphalt is pourous and will let some water through the problem with that in New Jersey is the cold months. In the cold this water will expand and contract under the asphalt and cause all different kinds of issues.
In the sealcoating industry there are a two main types of sealcoating products available. The first is coal tar sealcoat, this sealer has different chemicals in it that do not allow the destructive elements of weather and chemicals to effect its propertys. So it acts like a barrier over the blacktop to protect it. The next type of sealer is a oil based sealer, this sealer is a little diferent because of the way it soaks into the asphalt. It doesnt provide a barrier over the blacktop like coaltar sealer. Nice job! First, the crew removed the old asphalt driveway, including removing the asphalt and the contaminated gravel. Next, the Plymouth County Paving-781-585-9099 guys, laid and compacted the base asphalt course. And last, the crew installed and compacted the top asphalt coat, and cleaned up everything, so well that the only evidence that the guys were there is the shiny new driveway.

When getting estimates on your parkinglots there is much to consider. In many cases there are huge price differnences between paving contractors. Usually this is becauses their was no comunication between the contractor and the customer. Like if you were droping off an estimate and no one was there to meet you. This will be the begining of price confusion and lack of information from both partys. Now the contractor writes the proposal as cheap as possible in hopes to aquire the work. Not knowing what kind of job the customer really needs.
To find out what kind of job the customer needs done there has to be questions. One question that should be asked is, how many cars and trucks use the parking lot daily. Another i would ask would be are there delivery trucks that use your parkinglot daily and if so how many. These are just a few questions that need to be asked in order to give the customer the wright job. Information that i get from the customer tells me the jobs specific needs. Example, 4 inchs of gravel and 2.5 inchs of asphalt would work in some big parking lots to keep the cost down. But if this isnt the wright job for you will spend more than you have too.
There are many times when a customer will get 4 inchs of gravel and 2.5 inchs of asphalt put in there parking lot. Within a few years it starts developing cracks, low spots, and holes. This is happening because you have a parking lot that has high traffic volume. Also delivery trucks in and out all day 5 days a week. Now the only way to fix the parking lot you just got paved before it all falls apart is to reserface. In order to reserface the lot there must be 2.5 inchs of top course asphalt paved over the entire lot. But if the information was avaliable this could have been avoided. You would have known the job needed 4 inchs of I-2 binder base asphalt than 2.5 inchs of I-5 top course. The diffrence between the job you needed and the job you got was the 4 inch base price. The gravel will work for lower traffic jobs but not for higher volumes of traffic. first thing you want to do is go outside and measure your driveway length times width. This will give you the square foot measurment of your driveway. If you have a length measurment of 50 feet by a width measurment of 20 feet you have a thousand total square feet of driveway. This is important because you dont want to transport more five gallon buckets of this stuff than you have too. Not to mention you will have to return them or wait till next year taking up garage space.Once you have a square foot measurment you will be able to go to your local hardware store and puchase your sealer.On the back of these five gallon buckets of sealer it will say how many square feet each single bucket will cover. If one bucket covers 300 square feet you will need to purchase four of these five gallon buckets of sealer.This little bit of of extra sealer will be just enough to give yourself a nice thick coat.While at the hardware store see if you can locate a cheap push broom. This will make the task much easier than useing the squeegee that they will offer you. The broom leaves a better finished product that looks smoother to the eye than the squeegee. The last thing you will need to get from the hardware store is a empty five gallon bucket. This is so you can add water to the sealer without making a mess.
Put some work cloths on and some old shoes because you will get the sealer on you one way or the other. Remove any grass or vegetation that may be growing up through your driveway or along the edges of the blacktop. If you have a leaf blower you will need to clean off your driveway with it. Make sure that you clean the driveway well, there can be no dirt left on the asphalt or the sealer will not stick properly.If you do not have a blower you can sweep the driveway with the push broom. Once the driveway is clean you can put the five gallon buckets of sealer at the top of your driveway. This is because you want to work your way out towards the street. Next you want take the empty five gallon bucket and fill it 1/3 of the way up with water. Take one bucket of sealer and pour it into the bucket with the 1/3 of water and stir. You want to pour out about 1/4 of the bucket mixed with the water and sealer. Broom the sealer as far as it will go starting at the top left corner working your way to the right than down. Repeat this until you have sealed the entire driveway, Wait 24 hours before use. http://keatorbuiltpavingandsealcoating.com

Before signing off on a new asphalt driveway, be sure to weigh all the options that go into making that decision. If thought adequately through, homeowners may side with gravel driveways because of the variety of positive factors they have over asphalt and concrete. Laying a driveway with gravel is usually a cheaper endeavor than paying for asphalt and can be done by the homeowner cutting out contractors.
To begin, the first way that gravel beats out other kinds of driveways is the fact that they are much more durable and easier to maintain. Asphalt and concrete can become chipped and crack due to over exposure to harsh elements. Gravel will never have this problem because stone driveways merely have to be re-spread when they become agitated from cars and personal traffic.
Installation is another benefit that a stone driveway can give to the homeowner in two major areas. As previously stated, spreading a gravel driveway can be done without a contractor and is much like mulching a lawn. People merely have to carry it to its destination and spread it evenly across the ground. It also takes far less time to install as asphalt and concrete take much longer to smooth and dry.
Runoff and flood control is another positive aspect to these forms of driveways. Asphalt and concrete are not porous materials and as such, rain water does not get absorbed into the ground. This can cause excessive flooding in the streets, which can be dangerous. Gravel, while it is also not porous, does allow water to seep through to the ground because it is not a completely solid surface.
Finally, gravel driveways are superior because they can be decorative. Blacktop and concrete come in two basic colors for the most part, black and grey. Gravel stones can come in a variety of different colors, which can accent the outside appearance of the home. These different colors can be used to draw out discreet colors or further enhance a dominant color in the home decor.
Laying a driveway with gravel is far superior to asphalt and concrete in a wide ranging set of ways. People must look at the problem from every angle before making the wrong decision. Gravel driveways come in different colors, are more environmentally friendly, are easily installed, and are much easier to maintain. On top of all that, it is usually cheaper to side with gravel rather than other driveway materials.
