Choosing paving stones for your garden, walkway or driveway is an important decision and requires a bit of research. There are many things to consider: color, style, size, base, material, etc. One of the best ways to choose your paving stones is to take a look at what other people have done or look through pictures to get some inspiration.

First, decide what you want to do with your pavers. Pavers are a great choice for driveways; they’re a durable, maintenance-free solution. Replacing ugly asphalt or cracked concrete driveways with pavers is also a good investment in your property. If you’re using paving stones for your driveway be sure to install them without mortar, ensuring cracking won’t occur.

Choosing a type of stone paver is the most exciting part of the process. There are three main types of stone pavers: stone and natural stone, concrete, and brick pavers. Natural stone varieties are incredibly beautiful and will add an elegant charm to your home, garden or driveway. The color choice is slightly restricted because they’re natural, although common colors are blue-gray shades. You can also get them in earthy colors. Natural stone pavers are the best choice for a natural, classy look. Concrete pavers, on the other hand, are manufactured, giving an endless choice of color. Dyes are added to the concrete during the process to achieve any color imaginable. These pavers are affordable and good on a budget. Brick pavers are another option and also come in a large range of color choices. Commonly used colors are charcoal, brown shades, terracotta, cappuccino and red tinges.

Antique pavers are another fun option to think about. These pavers help you achieve an old world feel to your home and have been used in thousands of homes and historic buildings in all parts of the world. Antique pavers are great because they’re versatile. You can use them in any area around your home, like the driveway or walkway. They’re also very durable and come in a variety of styles and colors. You can buy antique pavers in an imitation style, which is very affordable and great looking. You can also buy tumbled pavers or natural stone antique pavers, which are made of cobblestone, granite or limestone. These types of pavers are truly antique and can be up to 300 years old. They’re a great way to give your home an authentic, truly remarkable feel.

A great tip when choosing your paving stones is to try mixing colors. This gives your garden or walkway a creative and inspired look. You can mix different textures and patterns as well. This is a great way to put your personality into your home decoration.

Also remember to lay your paving stones on level sand. This will give you the best installation, allowing the pavers to shift slightly. This will prevent any cracks or damage that can easily occur if you use a mortar.

Remember this advice when shopping for your paving stones. Choose something that’s long-lasting and will look great in your home and always pick something that reflects your personality.

Today there are many options when it comes to remodeling or making improvements to your driveway. Do you know which material option you have to work with?

Options:

1. Asphalt

2. Concrete

3. Paving Stones

Asphalt is the cheaper of the three. Asphalt needs to lay over from 1 to 2 days before driving on it. The life expectancy of asphalt is 15 to 20 years. The paved driveway needs sealed after one year. The only disadvantage is that asphalt does change colors.

Concrete will cost you around $10 per square foot. There are some disadvantages to having a concrete driveway. Extreme heat can cause the concrete to crack. The heat causes concrete to cure to fast. When it cracks ,grass starts to grow in the cracks. This can be very discouraging to the home owners. If the home owners use substances or chemicals to melt ice on the driveway , they may find the surface deteriorated. The life span for concrete is 25 to 30 years.

Paving stones will cost the home owner $20 per square foot. There are options to choose from when using paving stones. Brick or stone may be used. Flagstone is more expensive. Your flagstone driveway will improve the look of your home . Your neighbors will want to have their driveway done after seeing the beautiful effect it made on your home. The life expectancy is 20 to 100 years. It is important to have a base for reinforcement when using the flagstone or brick. If no base is installed your driveway will suffer susceptible damage.

Before a driveway bed can be prepared , the old driveway has to be completely removed and hauled away. Then you have to dig up the underneath foundation of the old driveway to prepare for the bed to be prepared. This requires six to eight inches of crushed concrete to be poured and compacted. This allows water to drain and prevents weeds from growing up through the pavers.

Pavers use a polymer cement compound to cover the top . The polymer cement compound seals and hardens the top and give your new driveway it’s color.

It pays to shop around and ask different paving companies about their driveway techniques and the paving products they use in remodeling driveways. There are ways to cut some of the expenses. Make sure you know what their quoted price includes. Be aware of any pavers that approach you at your home. Know who you are dealing with.

Most people who design their own garage construction plan often neglect the design of an aesthetical driveway to go with it. Most end up with a fairly uninspiring concrete or gravel driveway – either because these seem to be about the only available option to them, or they are simply too exhausted by the construction of the main building itself, and they have simply not much time and energy left to design a decent driveway. And this is a pity.

Concrete driveway

To start off, let’s not vilify the concrete option: it’s still a good option. Concrete is affordable, easy to clean, durable and drains water well. Unfortunately, laying concrete – or even asphalt involves a lot of work and you will probably require the services of a contractor. For these reasons, many people have decided, in their garage construction plan, against concrete and opted for a variety of other building materials for their driveway.

You may not know it yet but there are a huge number of other good alternatives for garage driveways while selecting garage construction plan.

Twin concrete strips

First, one can build, in the garage construction plan, a twin concrete strips. This means pouring two 2-foot wide concrete strips just enough for your tires to drive along. The most obvious advantage of this design, is that a twin concrete strip design is superbly affordable than laying concrete over the entire garage driveway width. It is also perfect for someone who does not have much time and energy left after a long garage designing exercise: just lay two parallel strips of concrete or asphalt and you are done!

The only problem with twin strips is that they easily sink – either under the pressure of your car or they simply disappear under the vegetation if the garden is poorly maintained.

Crushed limestone

The second driveway design option in garage construction plan is using crushed limestone. Here you can use a very wide variety of rocks: gravel, crushed rock and pebbles. This option is not always easy to maintain as the gravel tend to spread around and beyond the driveway itself. There is also the problem of weeds growing through the driveway over the years.

Acid stained concrete

Another great driveway idea I have seen recently is acid-stained concrete. It’s very aesthetical but should me done by a specialist because of the obvious hazard of using a large quantity of acid.

Paver blocks

Let me also mention a beautiful option which blends the benefits of paver blocks with a nice green look: turfstone pavers. This type of garage driveway material lasts long and drains fairly well. But if you are on a limited budget then this might not be a good option for you: turfstone pavers are quite expensive.

Many people finally choose to go for the fairly classic paver blocks. Let’s admit it; this is still a design great option, even if it involves a lot of additional work. Naturally, paving blocks are still pricier than concrete or asphalt. This type of driveway also last very long and can be a great aesthetic option in a garage construction plan.

The driveway is typically the first thing people notice about your home as they approach. From a distance, the home can be a glorious view. A beautiful home deserves an equally fashionable driveway that compliments the home and adds value to the outside appearance. Choosing a driveway for your home doesn’t have to be a headache but it does require you to make some design choices so that the end result is the perfect driveway to go with your home.

The basic types of materials that you can choose from are concrete, pavers that are made of brick and asphalt. Yes, there are some celebrities who have driveways inlaid with 24-karat gold letters but for the most part, people choose from the other types of materials for their driveway. Your budget will dictate what type of driveway you can afford.

If you are having a new home built, you may have to settle for a concrete driveway as a part of homeowner’s association rules if the requirement is that all homes have concrete. This is seldom the case, even in gated communities. If you have a small budget, the best driveway choice will be asphalt for the short term.

Asphalt is very economical for the initial installation. The dark appearance can add a rich tone to the overall look of your home. Don’t rely on this look to last for long, however because asphalt, which is black tar laid over stones, tends to fade very quickly. It will be necessary to have your driveway paved again in a year or so to restore that fresh, dark appearance. Because the stones beneath tend to settle, it is important to understand that only a few repaving can be done and then you will have to remove the entire driveway and pave from scratch again.

When you can afford to pay a little more, concrete provides a more durable driveway. Concrete does not need to be touched up every couple of years and is not subject to soak up heat in the same way that asphalt does. Concrete can be shaped more artistically and provide design options that are simply not possible with concrete. The price tag is higher but it’s true what they say that you get what you pay for.

The most expensive driveway you can purchase is one created with pavers. Whether you wish to have a cobbled stone appearance, diamond pattern or something custom designed, pavers are the way to go. This type of driveway material requires the longest amount of time to install but the finished product can last for ages.

When you are preparing to choose a driveway for your home, after you determine your budget, shop around for competitive prices. Remember that asphalt is inexpensive but in the long range you will spend far more on resurfacing and replacement. Concrete is moderately price but can be prone to stains from oil leaks or other car fluids that spill out and concrete inevitably cracks, which can be costly to repair or replace.
