Asphalt is a very popular material for use in paving driveways and creating roads. Building a highway or driveway using asphalt requires spending money on labor costs and the cost of the materials. The cost of creating a driveway with the use of asphalt varies from one year to another. At the present time, the cost of asphalt is expensive and it will not be very practical for most people. It is likely that in the year 2011 the cost of asphalt will go even higher. To calculate the asphalt driveway cost correctly, you have to know the amount of asphalt that will be needed.
Asphalt is generally priced by the ton. In New England it will cost approximately $ 110 to $ 130 to purchase one ton of asphalt. The cost of one square foot of driveway made from asphalt may range from three dollars to six dollars. Many people who use asphalt for driveways want something that is more attractive than plain asphalt. For example, you may want to have it stamped or colored, but this will cost you more. A driveway that is constructed from asphalt that has been stamped or colored can cost twice as much as a plain driveway. The costs of preparing the excavation for a driveway must also be taken into account.
In general, the two major factors that affect the asphalt driveway cost will be the price of the material and the cost of labor. Before the surface of the driveway can be paved, the base must be properly constructed to ensure a stable support and good drainage.
The cost of the asphalt material is related to the price of oil. If oil goes up then the asphalt price rises. If you require thicker asphalt because of the climate conditions in your area then you will have to pay more. Another factor is your neighborhood. If you live in a neighborhood where yards and houses are expensive and immaculate, you will have to pay a higher price to get top quality work.
When you are getting a new driveway made, the asphalt driveway paving will have to be done by a contractor. To get a contractor with good skills and good equipment will cost you more. The size of your driveway will affect the cost. It your proposed driveway is large, the asphalt driveway cost per square foot will actually be lower than if the driveway is small, because the process is more efficient. Be prepared in case something goes wrong during the construction process. If the job is handled smoothly with no problems then the costs will be lower.
